Hickory bay is home to one of the best beach breaks in NZ - a Long channel opening into the pacific ocean, bordered by sea cliffs and a sandy beach. Remote yet only 12 minutes from the Purple Peak Retreat or twenty five minutes from Akaroa. If its pumping in too big and it can occasionally hit 24ft, then Le bons bay should be spot on at about 1/3 the size dependant on swell direction.

The water temperature will vary dependant on time of year and preceding week conditions. It is a unique break in an untouched part of the country
